Am I crazy or are there 3^3 (27) days in a month and 3^3 (27) months every two years? The astronomy guy told me that Mercury has a period of 2/3 - so that it turns around 3 times every two times around the sun. I feel like life is a big computer program and that is the password, so can I get out now? -- Patrick

Shana - if you read this - here's a money making astronomy idea. I just talked to an astrophysics prof at my university and he thought it made sense that I would be able to see myself from a long time ago if I looked really close to the edge of any object, much less a black hole or galaxy cluster -- because of gravitational lensing. It makes me think that everything in the universe must have an upsidedown and backwards image of me from a long time ago on it and that I should be able to see it by playing with the contrast and brightness of a photograph. Woah.
(Another thing that freaks me out is that the speed of light is constant -- not distance or time but distance per time -- that that is more real than either distance or time. Thats f'd up. It makes me think of Ray Kurzweil's logarithmic time -- that it's simpler to think of exponentially increasing complexity than to think of years or lightyears. Distance per time per amount-of-smartness.)
Anyway, I think we should go to the nearest and most expensive very-wide-optical-array and look through it at the most near and massive object we can find, and look right around the very edges of the object and find out something valuable from our past like who really killed JFK or what happened to the 18 minutes of Watergate tape so we can sell it and make a million dollars and live happily ever after not working and only thinking of cool stuff and posting it on blogs...

Two things. These animations are amazing. Also I have an astronomy question for Shana, in case she reads this. I read that the moon is a splash droplet - sort of like one of those balls of water you see above a splash crater right after impact. Could the planets also be splash effects - of an impact with the sun? Just wondering.
A few days ago I opened the paper and saw an art exhibition of 3D prints of everyday objects that had been skewed or sheared in a design program before they were printed - so the perspective is all off in an interesting way. There goes another one of my grand schemes to take over the world.
