Cherry always sends me a collection of masterpiece cartoons drawn on a greeting card every birthday/solstice/4th of July/arbor day etc. Here is one example (which I lifted and put against my own lame background)
Cherry's Ark
As I said, they are masterpieces. The magic is in each character's expression and how true to life they are. Notice the penguin's smile with three rows of teeth. Familiar? Cherry is very bad at disguising her inability to not see through the veil of the everyday (including mirrors) straight into a soul and to then magnify that soul with a few elegant and minimal strokes. It is to her credit that she is able to bury her awareness of this in the kind of gentle nonchalance that one would expect to highlight it. The thing is, it strikes me now especially looking back on them, that Cherry picks the very best things about people to shine through. Her world is absolutely true to life, except that its Cherry's world, and it's full of the very best that Cherry sees in everyone. Wouldn't it be great if everyone could see the world that way? That's why it makes sense to get Cherry's art out to the masses - in whatever form. I first thought we should make a kids book called Cherry's Ark and Cherry wrote the beginning of words for it. And I am trying to fit my constant life-or-death struggle with Rhino into my busy schedule right now so I can figure out how to turn Cherry's 2D drawings into 3D figures. I only have had very minimal success as you can see by the Paterex. I'm still looking for a tutorial that teaches you how to change 2D drawings into 3D.
Cherry's Art
"Paterex" is a cultural reference to this old tv commercial from the 1970s and 80s for Memorex audio tapes where an opera singer would sing a note so high and loud that it would break a crystal wine glass in the room and then they would play the singers voice on Memorex tapes over a stereo and it would do the same thing and the announcer would say, "Is is live (pregnant pause)... or is it Memorex?" (When I say "pregnant pause" I mean that the pause is full of meaning -- supposed to get your attention.) Anyway, the point is that Cherry is the greatest artist ever to hit surface of the little black piece of coal that sits directly at the center of all of my sensory orafices -- and I know this because the expressions on the faces of her cartoon characters make that little black piece of coal start to bubble with life and hope and exude organic gasses of an incredibly high octane. Anyway 2, sorry for embarrassing you Cherry, but you know you are the President of the whole universe in my book. OK enough Cherry worship.

Xuan, I'd like to hear more about your spacial design ideas. Maybe there's a way to weave them into the fabric design thing. Don't worry about getting charged a high rate, money is all confidence -- con - fidence - fiduciary - fidelity - with loyalty to the truth. How do you know what is true? Because you trust it. Money is trust. And time. It even says on the back, In God We Trust. Money represents people's trust. So to get more money you have to get more trust. Get people to trust you more, get to trust other people more. Have a trust party. Get trussed! I wish they paid money for bad philosophy, I would be a millionaire.

A heavy wool Kimono -- not only do you get a different perspective over time but you practice trusting things that are a year away.

Cherry, one thing I've been dying to ask you for the last 5 years or so, do you remember that special pattern fold you spent about 3 hours doing and then gave to me as a present and I immediately gave it away to the first customer that came through my line? Can you teach me how to do that pattern?

Is it real? or is it Paterex?

Xuan, it's great to hear your fingers tap tap tapping. Spaces, ay? "Space" was one of my many nicknames in school. Another was "the vegetable". A third was "last place" because I came in last place in every highschool track event I ever ran. I happen to be an expert at space. I have spent many a long and borring algebra class looking out the window and focusing on space. Keep the ideas coming, I would love to hear more. The great thing is it all goes into the archives. There's a book out about how to get a book deal by sending your blog address around to publishers. After awhile we might think about that too.

Today I'm stewing over the fact that I got kicked out of www.halfbakery.com. And learning to knit with my bare hands. I'm going to a knitting class tomorrow. I'm going to see if I can translate what I learn there into knitting with my fingers. I figure that's how it must have started. I can't believe I got kicked out of the halfbakery. How is that possible? If you look me up I've got more fishbones than any other halfbaker. I just got an email from the webmaster that I was booted for submitting an invention that I would take another sip of coffee. It was supposed to be postmodern but it didn't go over very well. I thought all the fishbones were some kind of initiation ritual. It turns out there are a lot of halfbakers who only post one or two ideas every week and think very carefully about them and respond to comments about how sucky their ideas are. Check me out at PAT's UNBELIEVABLE FISHBONE HAVEN. My wild ambition is to not be kicked out of something. Is that too much to ask? (don't answer that.) I coming up to handing in my final project and taking my Comprehensive exam the second time. The project is due on Friday or I fail. I better get started. The Comps are on March 19th. My friend Lisa is going to help me study for them. Of course she helped me study for them the last time and it didn't work. But I have a feeling this time will be different. If she helps me and I pass, we have agreed to start a revolution together. She grew up in the 1960s and is still waiting for the age of aquarius to start.

Xuan,
O! Mystery of all mysteries, most hypnotic, diaphanous, sublime, gyrate, involutinous, sacred, occult, intertwining, intervolved, serpentine, sinuate, spiral, twisting, winding, wreathing, writhing, coiling, complex, curlicue, snaking, swirling, tortuous, twisting, undulating, cornucopaic, tortile, tortuous, sigmoid, sinuous, swirly, insidious, oblique, circuitous, iniquitous, alluring, wily, guileful, beguiling, bewitching, fascinating, mesmerizing, tantalizing, elegant, siren, graceful, and holy of all secrets, what is at your heart?
